You Can’t Fake Facts

One of the facts Canadians are most interested in is how the carbon tax and rebate will impact their household budget. And the facts here are clear: 8 out of 10 families will get more back in rebates than they’ll pay in carbon taxes. Canadians in Ontario, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba already received their rebate for 2019 when they filed their income tax return, and people in Alberta can plan for it when they file next year.

The Parliamentary Budget Office released a report earlier this year that confirmed this. Over the next five years, only the wealthiest 20% of Canadian households will pay more than they get back — and even then, they won’t pay very much. And because it’s written in law that 90% of the revenue raised by the carbon tax has to go back to households, you can be sure that it will continue to be a fact.
